The 'version' property

Reading the version property of the System object returns information about the operating system and APLX GUI sub-system. It returns a five-element integer vector containing:

        [1] Version number for the System Class sub-system
        [2] GUI environment code 0 = MacOS 1 = Windows, 2 = X-Windows, 4 = Console
        [3] OS Family code. For MacOS:     0 = Classic,  1 = OSX
                            For Windows:   0 = 95/98/ME, 1 = NT/2000/XP/Vista
                            For X-Windows: 0 = Linux
        [4] OS Major version
        [5] OS Minor version  

On Windows systems, the values returned for the last three elements are:

        Windows 95:      0  4  0
        Windows 98:      0  4  10
        Windows ME:      0  4  20
        Windows NT4:     1  4  0
        Windows 2000:    1  5  0
        Windows XP:      1  5  1
        Windows Vista:   1  6  0
